NeST gallery at Barnard Castle

Had a day out to Barnard Castle to see my work on exhibition as part of NeST's Celebrate exhibition. www.barnardcastlenest.org.uk/gallery

Cathrine Howard took over the gallery about 2 years ago. I met her at Art in the Pen and she invited me to take part in the exhibition. The gallery is beautiful and there is a wide range of art work on exhibition and for sale. It is also a hub for business and business development, oh how I wish I lived nearer :-) It was lovely meeting Cathrine and her team and I can't wait till I go back in a few weeks.

This piece has gone to a new home...

...so I took 4 of my stitched collage vases to the gallery

The work on exhibition was lovely but this caught my eye...and I just had to treat myself xx

A lovely afternoon in Harrogate

A little nervous at first, but I had a lovely afternoon and was made to feel very welcome by the ladies who attended Saturdays Harrogate Embroiders Guild. 'My journey from A to Z' explains my journey so far and how H-anne-MADE came about. It was lovely to meet again the ladies I first met at Art in the Pen and have a chat over a cup of tea.

There were some lovely comments about my work and even a few laughs during my talk. I really enjoyed sharing my story and was so pleased to receive this e-mail the day after...

Hello Anne,
just wanted to say again how much I enjoyed Saturday, it was well worth the trip from Guisborough. Looking at your books has really spurred me on and when I got home I got out all my bits and pieces that I had collected and started putting them in books which I had started and forgotten about! I used to think that journals and sketch books had to have a reason or a theme but you've made me look at them in different light. As you say they are really a record of your journey through life and some days there is more to record that others but again I used to think there had to be something 'significant' to record but the small things can be just as interesting. I found some Italian papers I'd bought (I love anything Italian) just because I liked them with nothing in mind but now I know what I'm going to do with them (after 3 years). I daren't tear maps up in my house (my husband collects them) but I'm going to get some from charity shops just for that purpose.
So thanks again for inspiring me. I have Angie Lewin's books and armed with that and ideas you've given me I'm off to search out even more seed heads.
Good luck and hope to see you at Skipton.

Looking forward to the next one in March at the Halifax Embroiders Guild.

Harrogate Embroiders Guild

I have been invited to speak at the Harrogate Embroiders guild next Saturday. 'My journey from A-Z and back again.' I have been working on the presentation and collecting together the samples of work I would like to take with me. All very exciting, will post next week to let you know how it all went on xx

So on to our turn...

We had a play day today with Claire Tinsley who spoke to us the night before. We were to to the bonded impressions workshop based on her quilt:- 'These are a few of my favourite flowers'

                                                                                       (poppy detail)

I had been looking at Claire's work prior to the workshop and had been thinking about what to do. As I am not a very 'flowery' person I had been looking for an image to base my work for the day on. It will come as no surprise that Dandelions featured high on the list.

The technique Claire uses is based on bonded layers that are built up from the backing piece of fabric. You can then paint and sew on the top to add depth and detail. Here is the piece I started on the day.

This was my piece a the end of the day. I am pleased with it so far and if I have time will continue to develop the piece. We had a lovely day chatting, sewing and developing a new technique.
